Where is the January Pixel Update?
With the dawn of 2026, many Google Pixel users are eagerly anticipating the first update of the year. While Google has already provided some insights regarding Android updates in relation to AOSP (Android Open Source Project), the much-anticipated January Pixel update has yet to make its debut. So, when should we expect this update? The timeline remains somewhat elusive, but we can take a look at previous patterns to make an educated guess.
Historically, Google has been known to release Pixel updates on the first Monday of each month. However, at the conclusion of 2023, the tech giant announced a shift from this consistent schedule, opting for greater flexibility in timing. Instead of adhering to a fixed release day, Google aims to publish updates only when they are fully prepared, eliminating the pressure of meeting a specific deadline. Fortunately, despite this change, updates have generally continued to be rolled out within the first week of each month.
Now, let’s circle back to the January update.
January Pixel Update
As of yesterday, which marked the first Monday of January, Google did not provide the anticipated update for its Pixel devices. Although they did release the January 2026 Android Security Bulletin on that day, the corresponding Pixel update was conspicuously absent. In the past, these two announcements typically occurred simultaneously, but since 2024, it appears that the Android Security Bulletin is now the sole focus of the first Monday's updates.
Even though Google may be moving away from releasing updates strictly on the first Mondays, there is still a trend of updates being launched on the first or second Tuesdays and Wednesdays of the month.
To illustrate, the December update was made available on December 2 (the first Tuesday), while the November update was released on November 11 (the second Tuesday). The October update came out on October 8 (the second Wednesday), the September update was issued on September 3 (the first Wednesday), the August update was available on August 5 (the first Tuesday), and July’s update appeared on July 8 (again, the second Tuesday).
So, what can we anticipate for the January 2026 Pixel update? Given that today is already late on the first Tuesday, it would not be surprising if the update drops tomorrow, January 7. Rest assured, as soon as it becomes available, we will be among the first to inform you.
