RTÉ Radio 1's New Line-Up Hits Four 400k Shows
RTÉ Radio 1 is experiencing a surge in popularity, with four of its flagship shows now attracting over 400,000 listeners each week. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the station, as it demonstrates the success of its new programming lineup. The latest Joint National Listenership Research figures reveal a 29% share of the national audience, with nearly two million listeners tuning in weekly.
RTÉ's radio services dominate the airwaves, securing 18 of the top 20 programmes and the entire top ten. Among these, Morning Ireland remains the most popular show, with 467,000 listeners, despite a slight dip of 4,000 from the previous book. Today with David McCullagh follows closely behind, drawing in 440,000 listeners from 9 am to 11 am. Oliver Callan's show, broadcast from 11 am to 1 pm, garners 308,000 daily listeners.
News at One, hosted by Kieran Cuddihy, attracts 279,000 listeners, while Liveline, now under the helm of Cuddihy, reaches 280,000. The weekend lineup is equally impressive, with Brendan O'Connor's Saturday show drawing 429,000 listeners, up 10,000 from the previous book, and his Sunday show amassing 418,000, a rise of 52,000.
Other notable shows include Sunday Miscellany, which has grown to 338,000 listeners, and Sunday with Miriam, which now reaches 341,000. The Business, a popular programme, has climbed to 370,000 listeners, while Playback has 349,000. Countrywide has also increased to 272,000.
Patricia Monahan, Director of Audio at RTÉ, expressed her satisfaction with the new Radio 1 schedule, emphasizing its focus on delivering for the audience across seven days and various genres. She highlighted the success of the four flagship shows, attracting over 400,000 listeners, indicating a growing audience shift towards Radio 1.
RTÉ lyric fm continues its steady rise, now reaching 342,000 listeners weekly, with a record-high 3.1% share. Marty in the Morning has 77,000 listeners, while RTÉ 2FM reaches 645,000 weekly. However, 2FM Breakfast, Laura Fox, and Tracy Clifford have seen slight declines in listenership.
Despite a minor dip in adult market share, RTÉ 2FM is confident in its future plans, as Dan Healy, Head of RTÉ 2FM, assures that the station will continue to cater to the 15-34 audience in Ireland.
