Ky-ya Nicholson Ward, the partner of the late Phoenix Spicer, has bravely shared the heartbreaking details surrounding his death, urging everyone to prioritize their health. Spicer, who played for North Melbourne for three seasons earlier this decade, died in early January at the young age of 23.
In a raw and emotional Facebook post, Nicholson Ward revealed that Spicer's death was caused by a "sudden brain aneurysm." She shared her profound grief, stating, "My heart is broken." She explained her decision to share this information: "I’ve decided to share what happened to my darling Phoenix, not because I have to, but because I want to raise awareness."
She continued, recounting the devastating moment: "I found him… we tried with everything we could to save him but we didn’t know he was already gone. It was the most traumatic experience of my life." She emphasized that Spicer did not take his own life. The post further explained, "Days later we found out that Phoenix passed into the Dreaming from a sudden brain aneurysm. He never complained of headaches or showed any signs that something was wrong."
