Montgomery acknowledges the importance of learning from these setbacks, stating, 'When adversity hits, you learn a lot about yourself, and we learned a lot about where we're at and what we've got to grow and become for this upcoming season.'
The good news is that the Buckeyes have a wealth of experience returning to the trenches. Austin Siereveld, Montgomery, Carson Hinzman, and Phillip Daniels are all back from last year's starting lineup, providing a solid foundation. Additionally, Gabe VanSickle and Ian Moore offer depth and versatility, with VanSickle starting at right guard in the Cotton Bowl and Moore stepping in at left tackle after Siereveld's injury.
The offensive line's potential was further highlighted by the fact that Montgomery, Siereveld, and Hinzman were all potential 2026 NFL draft picks. And for all of us to come back, we know what the real goal is this year and what we've got to accomplish and stuff like that, it's going to be a lot of fun.'

While Montgomery and Hinzman are locked in as starting left guard and center, the positions of left tackle and right guard are still up for grabs. He says, 'We've got a lot to do this summer, a lot of workouts and stuff like that, but we've got to be in great shape when it comes to game time.'

However, Montgomery feels that the team has come together well, stating, 'Light years ahead. I've gotten super close with a lot of the guys, a lot of guys that are new, and I respect the heck out of them.'
As a senior, Montgomery is embracing his leadership role, but he also acknowledges the emergence of other leaders within the team. He says, 'I feel like a great leader. And I think we got a lot of leaders, too. A big motto this year for us is you can lead no matter what. You can be a freshman, you can lead.'
The Buckeyes' journey towards redemption is well underway, and with a strong offensive line and a united team, they are poised to make a significant impact this season. Montgomery's enthusiasm and dedication are infectious, and his leadership will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in the team's success.
