David Letterman Slams CBS: The Decline of Late-Night Integrity (2026)

David Letterman has made it clear that he is highly critical of the current management at CBS, the network that was home to his iconic Late Show for over two decades. In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, he did not hold back in expressing his disdain, referring to the leadership as "idiots"—likely pointing fingers at figures like Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison and CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss.

"What’s up with those idiots at CBS?" Letterman exclaimed. "CBS News is a total mess. It’s essentially gone."

This statement comes amid a wave of public concern regarding CBS's apparent shift towards more conservative viewpoints, particularly in light of the network's perceived support for former President Donald Trump. Letterman took a moment to reflect on CBS News' storied legacy, recalling the impactful radio broadcasts of Edward R. Murrow during World War II's London Blitz as a benchmark of journalistic integrity.

"It was that very mentality that once upheld the integrity of CBS News, but now it has been trampled upon, disrespected, and utterly destroyed by these individuals in charge," he lamented. "Honestly, I’m feeling quite hurt by this situation because I’m tired of hearing people say, ‘Just wait until the midterms.’ Folks, we are far beyond the point where the midterms will make any difference."

In his video, Letterman also voiced his support for fellow late-night hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel, who has recently gained significant public sympathy during his suspension at ABC, as well as Stephen Colbert, who is set to be let go from his position at CBS, and Seth Meyers, who continues to keep his Late Night role at NBC.

"People need to realize that Jimmy Kimmel has been instrumental in making network executives at Disney and other television companies rethink their positions. He has shown them for the fools they are by continuously shining a light on various issues. And let’s not forget about Seth Meyers; he is also doing an excellent job. We are quickly running out of platforms where these valuable voices can be heard. With Stephen Colbert’s franchise coming to an end, it feels like a significant loss."

Lastly, Letterman addressed claims that Kimmel is injecting politics into late-night television. He argues that if there were a Democratic president behaving inappropriately, Kimmel would target him just as much as he does Trump. "This isn’t purely a political agenda; it’s all about the behavior of the person holding the office," he clarified.

But here's where things get truly engaging: Are we witnessing a decline in honest journalism in favor of corporate interests? What do you think about Letterman's take on the current state of late-night television? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
