Algoma Steel Applauds Carney's Defence Industry Strategy: A Historic Partnership
Algoma Steel, with its rich history in the defence sector, is praising the new federal defence industry plan unveiled by Prime Minister Mark Carney. This strategy, which aims to boost Canada's military capabilities and domestic industry, has Algoma's full support.

Devoni highlighted Algoma's significant contributions to the sector: "Our steel has been instrumental in the First World War, providing shells for our troops. We've also supplied steel plates for armoured vehicles, tanks, and personnel carriers for the U.S. armed forces. More recently, we've been involved in the national shipbuilding strategy, contributing to the joint support ships."
"As Algoma embarks on a new era with electric arc furnace steelmaking and advanced plate capabilities, we're excited to continue our collaboration with the government and industry partners to strengthen Canada," Devoni added.
Prime Minister Carney's announcement at CAE's flight-simulator plant in Montreal was a significant moment. He revealed plans to invest over half a trillion dollars, aiming to increase defence exports by 50% and create 125,000 Canadian jobs by 2035. The strategy's key focuses include:

This ambitious plan aims to elevate the share of defence acquisitions awarded to Canadian firms to 70% and significantly boost Canadian defence industry revenues by 240%.
