Afenyo-Markin Slams NDC: 'This Government is a Promise and Fail Government' (2026)

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has launched a scathing critique of the government's performance, accusing it of failing to support its own Members of Parliament while simultaneously promising to create jobs for the country's unemployed youth. On December 18, 2025, Afenyo-Markin questioned the credibility of the 24-Hour Economy policy, which proposes a three-shift system. He argued that a government unable to provide for its own representatives cannot be trusted to address the nation's widespread unemployment crisis. Afenyo-Markin's remarks highlighted the government's apparent inconsistency, stating, 'They said they would create one job with three shifts. A government that cannot care for its 189 members in this chamber cannot care for the many jobless youth. This government is a promise and fail government.' Furthermore, he suggested that some National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs rely on taxis and ride-hailing apps to attend parliamentary sessions, calling on the majority to support their backbenchers. Afenyo-Markin also criticized Isaac Adongo, an NDC MP, for frequently attacking the Minority in Parliament while being jobless himself. He stated, 'What Adongo needs is a job. He is always on the floor attacking the Minority, yet he is jobless.' These comments have sparked debate and raised questions about the government's commitment to its promises and the well-being of its representatives.
